Eureka Stadium on track

Construction at Ballarat’s Eureka Stadium continues ahead of its first AFL game in August with Western Bulldogs set to host Port Adelaide.

Stage one is expected to be completed in late June at a cost of $15m. The ground has been transformed with construction of a new 5,000-seat grandstand, 50sqm video scoreboard, new lighting and resurfacing of the playing surface which is now the same dimensions as Etihad Stadium.

Capacity will be 11,000, however the Western Bulldogs hope that can be extended to 20,000 in future years. The club hopes to boost the number of home games at the venue to two per year plus an AFLW fixture.

Meanwhile, the City of Ballarat has taken over the Eureka Stadium precinct in a compulsory acquisition at a cost of $5.5m – taking over from the North Ballarat Football Club.
