Hawthorn’s new headquarters at Dingley are a step closer to reality, with the AFL club signing a construction contract for build of the Kennedy Community Centre.

The $100 million project will see Hawthorn continue to be the only club in the AFL competition to own its own facility and the land on which it is situated.

While early works have been underway onsite since the start of the year, the official turning of the first sod and commencement of construction will occur in February 2023. The project will be completed by mid-2024.

ADCO Constructions, one of Australia’s largest construction companies since it started 50 years ago, has won the contract to build the facility.

With ADCO’s commitment now confirmed, construction works will soon begin on what is the most significant and transformational project undertaken by Hawthorn in its history.

Acting Hawthorn President Peter Nankivell said this was a momentous occasion for Hawthorn as it set its sights on an exciting, new chapter in the club’s history.

“This is a significant moment for the club as we take another step towards making this dream a reality,” Nankivell said.

“The Harris Elite Training and Administration Facility will give Hawthorn the best sporting facilities of any club in the country.

“As a club, we are incredibly excited to enter into this partnership with ADCO, an organisation that comes with an impressive reputation and great ability to bring a vision to life.

“This project will revolutionise Hawthorn’s standing as a destination club and greatly enhance both our AFL and AFLW programs.”

The Hawthorn Football Club will relocate its training and administration headquarters from its current home at Waverley Park to the new Kennedy Community Centre, while the club’s AFLW team will play home games at the venue.

The development of the AFLW community oval and pavilion alongside Hawthorn’s training and administration facility marks the initial construction stage of the Kennedy Community Centre project.
